Brothers make the best pillows!
Updates are here. (Really, this time.) Gideon and Zip's babies were born the night of January 10. It was a flurry of activity here with the whole litter arriving in about 3 hours, instead of the more leisurely 8-12 hours I'm used to. Once I got a chance to catch a breath and take a look at the new family, what beautiful pups they are! 4 boys and 3 girls, all yellow. Some remind me more of Gideon, some are more like Zip.. but resembling either parent they can't go wrong. Once their personalities start coming in it will be fun to get to know them. Gideon is Mr Mellow and always a pleasure to be with. Zip is full of enthusiasm and eagerness to please. Grandma Emma has the best "off switch" of any dog I've known. She surprised people at shows with how relaxed - sound asleep in fact - she could be at ringside, and then go into the ring and show her heart out. Once out of the ring she'd just kick back again. They don't get any better to live with than that. Always up for whatever came along but just as content to enjoy the moment. Grandma Jessie is somewhat similar, easy to live with and enjoying the moment. She so loves a game of tennis ball, but has never been a pest about it. Jessie has a marvelous sense of humor. I wonder if any of her grandbabies will inherit that. The grandpas are/were great boys too. Mac is where Gideon got his Mr Mellow temperament. What a sweetheart he was. And Raymond is such a gentleman. Polite and respectful yet confident. I'm also really pleased to offer a litter such a great chance at a healthy future. Both parents and 3 of the 4 grandparents have OFA excellent hips, the best possible rating. Gideon's DNA tests mean that none of his pups can have the genetic form of PRA (a genetic degenerative blindness) and none of his pups can have CNM (a genetic muscle wasting disease.) It's also rare to find a litter with both parents hearts cleared. On top of that both of Gideon's parents were cleared. The pups will be ready to go at 8 weeks. I am going to try to plan for pickups on March 8 or 9. With this pedigree, these pups should be beautiful show dogs, willing in obedience, good hunting partners, and just all round pleasant dogs.
